Holiday Poem
This year, the holiday season is proving more challenging. So, I turned to my old faithful: poetry, music, sarcasm. Here's to you. Happy holidays!
One day, I’ll find a way to record this adaptation without getting in trouble for copyright violations. Until then, enjoy it with some karaoke music in the background. Singing is strongly encouraged. You will also find a little treat at the end. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, after all.
The Covidmas Song (adapted from The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole)
Kitties roasting by an open fire
Candles scenting the whole room
Electric lights glimmering on a wire
And covid broadcast spreading doom
Everybody knows,
The mask goes over mouth and nose
Even though it gets all moist
Even Santa has to stay safe this year
He’ll send the Amazon elf instead
And yet the Christmas magic is still here
Although it’s masked and sanitised and tinged with fear
And I’ll turn on the candles every day
And watch old Disney films and ballet
And so, I’m spreading this wish like the flu
Even to bullies and no vax
Although this year was such a pain in the ass
Merry Christmas to you
It’s a small one today; because we’re all most likely rushing around for the holidays, I thought I’d keep it short and sweet!
I’m leaving you with a very special treat: a video featuring my personal version of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, with my marvellous friend Lem, from the YouTube channel Life of Lem.
Enjoy this festive treat and I’ll see you again in the new year, with more stories, poems, and general oddities!
Thank you so much for lending me your eyes and attention, and being, as always, my dear readers.
Happy holidays!
I love this irreverent poem, image, and song. The face masks flying in the air are a wonderful touch. 😉 Thank you for the reminder that we don’t have to be holly and jolly 100% of the time, especially at the end of 2 very long and difficult years. Sending so much love to you. I’m so thankful I have better friends than poor Rudolph 😂
